 Registration 

 Welcome & Introduction 

At the end of this module students will be able to

  • define and explain defensive driving and preventable collision
  • list the requirements of a professional driver
  • apply defensive driving practices and techniques
  • understand the standard accident prevention formula
  • isolate the 6 categories of driving conditions
  • explain the 2 key defensives

At the end of this module students will be able to

  • understand how attitude affects driving
  • understand the importance of taking responsibility as the driver
  • understand the laws relevant to impaired driving
  • list 4 categories of impairment
  • understand the responsibilities of the professional driver

At the end of this module students will be able to

  • preform a pre-trip inspection
  • understand preventative maintenance and its impact on safety and fuel efficiency

 Lunch Break 12:00-12:30p

At the end of this module students will be able to

  • describe ways to minimize the impact of environmental factors
  • understand the importance of fuel efficient routes
  • understand the effect idling time has on fuel efficiency
  • understand the effect speed has on fuel efficiency

At the end of this module students will be able to

  • understand how to avoid collisions with other road users
  • how and when to pass
  • avoid a collision when being passed
  • know what to do when involved in a collision

At the end of this module students will be able to

  • list the laws concerning right-of-way
  • understand traffic control devices
  • understand appropriate lane selection
  • list 3 steps to switching lanes
  • use the 4 point plan for intersection safety
  • use the basic rules of good backing techniques

New drivers seeking a taxi driver's licence will have to successfully complete this defensive driving course and take an on road assessment and up to 5 hours of practical driving experience including highway and urban driving, parking in traffic and backing scenarios.

The in car component included in this course, prepares you to take a traffic test administered by a MRD Driver Examiner.
